Amazing mountain, amazing views. We had a great weather. Cold at morning/sunset, very warm from 12-17.

Hard ride up from Chalet Reynard. Beautiful views especially on the descent. Doable. Take a wind jacket.

Liz B — Google review

Nice day's walk. We climbed steeply up to the top, seeing beautiful views on the way, and then took a longer, less steep route back, at times across loose scree.

Lucas M — Google review

Wow , what an experience! The climb is hard but if you are a road cyclist and regularly ride, it is doable. The Sault route is the easier of the three routes but still very challenging. Incredible views at the top.

Darcy G — Google review

What an amazing mountain to climb, cycling from Malusene you are surrounded by enchanted forest and as the climb goes on you will experience beautiful lunar scenery ..It's a HC cycle so definitely it is hard and now in the summer with the heat..but you will love it..

Olga C — Google review

Visiting Mont Ventoux peak was a rewarding experience. We drove up the winding roads, passing clouds, the views were spectacular, worth every second in the journey. We saw many cyclists and hikers along the ascend up “The Beast” (as Mont Ventoux is also known for).

Very nice

Hoang A — Google review

I rode my motorbike up this iconic climb in the dark to see the sun rise. It was an unforgettable experience.

Fred F — Google review

Great place to cycle up, especially on a weekend. The views from the top are unbelievable.Definitely worth ticking off your list of "must-do" climbs.

Sheridan — Google review

Epic experience riding to the top of this iconic climb, breathtaking views once at the top. However you can park at the top if you don’t fancy the ride there is a cafe and small shop selling lots of merchandise, drinks etc they accept card payment also. There is also a pick and mix stalls and one selling meats.

10/10 European standards2/10 Asian standards.Good views from top and a lot of cyclist. Although it is only 1900 meters height. Good for Europe but being from Asia, I've traveled many roads on my moto with 5000+ meters of altitude so not for me.

Amazing bike climb!

2hr bike ascent was well worth the spectacular views...I however took the easier option of driving the back-up van behind lol.

The Théâtre antique d'Orange is a remarkable Roman monument that has been recognized by UNESCO as one of France's most extraordinary Roman sites. It is an exceptionally well-preserved structure that stands out for its grand size and historical significance. Among the three existing intact Roman theaters in the world, this theater is unique with a seating capacity of 10,000 spectators and an enormous stage wall measuring 37m high, 103m wide, and 1.8m thick.

The theater is stunning. We took a virtual tour which gave a mock up of how it outdoors have been in the ancient times. I really recommend a visit to this place that is quite used nowadays as well for concerts and plays.

Davis Z — Google review

I can recommend the Escape Game. It is highly engaging and a great way to add more depth to a visit to the Roman theater. The free audio guide can be combined with the Escape Game, but I would not suggest that. The audio fragments are relatively long and most of your attention will go to solving the puzzles of the game anyways.

Stach R — Google review

Stunning and ancient. Around 1800 years old and beyond. Great value. Go to the museum first to see some of the antiquities then enter the amphitheater. Lots of steps so not wheelchair friendly at all (those damn romans!)

Col M — Google review

WOW. Absolute must see. Allow at least a couple of hours. Must be one of the best preserved amphitheatres. Don't miss the rooms behind the first tier.

Ray J — Google review

This was a wonderful example of ancient Roman architecture and ingenuity that gave rise to a theater that was used for many years for all kinds of entertainment and displays. It is one of only three of this kind in the world in this shape, and is a world UNESCO site. Not to be missed,

Gregory S — Google review

Great find. We had a good walk around the whole area and had great views, even over to Mount Ventoux. And make sure to try out echoes against the amazing wall.

Simon F — Google review

Best preserved Roman theater. Really interesting site. The have a 3d viewing add 9n that let's you view the theater as it was just as you come in.

David B — Google review

Well preserved Roman theatre. One of the best we have in Europe. I'm glad to see that the new restoration make it available to host plays once again

Euge — Google review

Amazing to see an amphitheater almost as intact as it's prime. Have never seen a theatre with it's main stage wall intact, was quite a site to see. It's massive!

Jarrod H — Google review

Very well preserved Roman theatre that is still in use, apparently with excellent acoustics. The stunning building behind the stage is one of the most remarkable of its kind for its grandeur and good condition. On the other hand, the tiers have been totally replaced by a modern structure.

Daniel F — Google review

Tickets should be aquired from the Museum in front of the Theatre and include visits to both (11.5 euro). The Theatre is not very large but tall so that the sounds can be heared well. The statue of Augustus is well preserved and is impressing!

Carmen S — Google review

What an awesome sight! Having studied Greek and Roman Theatre at college decades ago, I never expected to see a Roman Theatre in such a fantastic state of preservation - that stage building is just incredible. The audio guide was very good and the additional displays were very informative about Roman life generally. A memorable visit.

Malcolm R — Google review

The theater is absolutely gigantic and a must-see! It is just incredible how huge the theater is and how old.I will definitively come here again for one of the concerts as experiencing one in such a setting must be one of the best things ever. Not sure about people claiming the entrance fee. 13 Euros p.p. were absolutely okay and worth it unless you have a sight like this in your backyard and are used to such a sight. The audio guide was quite informative and interesting.

Annekathrin W — Google review

The building is impressive. The audio tape is worth listening t

Keith C — Google review

Arrived at 5pm Sunday, and guess what? Parking is free and the ticket to both the theatre and museum was free!It was a good time! We didn’t have time to see more but it was enough for us.

Yeephang W — Google review

Fascinating place.Bigger than you would expect and much more complicated. Actually an arts center as they did much more than just put on plays. They self guided tour is excellent. You leave feeling like you truly understand what a small segment of Roman life was like.Wish we had more time to look around.Museum is an added bonus showing what they used as everyday objects as well as props and build design elements.

Stephen G — Google review

Enormous, ancient, makes you think of where humanity was thousands of years ago. And then, what exactly caused its decline. Enjoy.

David K — Google review

A piece of Roman history and architecture that withstood the test of time.Wonder why they don’t build nowadays like they used to? 🤔From the outside, it looks impressive. Every corner you look from, there’s a different facade which tells a story.Entrance fee is €11.50/adult including the headset (compulsory) for the theatre and the museum across the road. The theatre steps have been restored, so, not much of it is original. The backdrop where the stage is, is a work of art. Imagine how grand it will all be if it was still intact. However, just the remains tells you of the immense size of the building. The Greeks and the Romans must be excellent sound technicians. So much so, the theatre is still used for concerts and performances because of its acoustics. We climbed up to the very top, sat down to take it all in while looking down to the stage and backdrop. If you do get a chance, visit Orange as well when you are visiting Avignon. You will not regret it.Suggestion - the management of the theatre should give a choice to visitors to either opt for the headset or not. Other places seem to be doing that.

Nice little waterfalls… you can cool down in the rivier a little but the rocks are slippery. There is a parking spot, payment method is confusing as it says no cash only CB but it accepts only visa or master card (no maestro debit).. we ended up paying with coins (?!) which seemed to be still accepted

We've passed yesterday through La Roque sur Ceze and the landscape is beautiful: waterfalls, vineyards.... We didn't have enough time to visit the city, but we'll be coming back soon. Just didn't find a lot of options to eat on the way. And be careful with the narrow bridge to cross when entering the town.

Château de Grignan is a Renaissance castle located on a rocky promontory in the village of Grignan, France. The fortress has a rich history dating back to the 11th century and was later transformed into a more palatial dwelling during the Renaissance. The castle is renowned for its decorative arts, paintings, and the brilliance of its court as described by the Marquise de Sevigne in her letters.

I took the guided tour of the castle, the guide was great, lots of details about life in the castle explained simply. The castle of Grignan is from the 17th century. It is destroyed in the past and was rebuild from a madame within public money. Now you can visit the town around and the castle itself also, entry is for kids until 12 years for free. A guided tour is also possible. Adults pay without the guided tour 8€ /person for the visit. The area around to see from the terrasse is wonderful and beautiful.Recommendation for a morning visit because elso it might be to hot on the terrasse.

Very beautiful castle with a rich history in the region. There is not much to see inside it, but the panorama with the view is absolutely magnificent. 8 EUR for an entry for an adult seems a bit pricey though for the content.

However, no luck for us, the castle was under renovation. On the other hand, one of the supervisors asked us if we had any questions to ask during the visit, that we do not hesitate but if we do not ask questions and we notice that he is making rounds towards our sector , I don't find it very professional that he is spying on us as if we were going to destroy what was inside. Luckily he didn't make it the entire length of our visit!Once you arrive on the terrace, the view is magnificent. It's worth doing once if you go that way.

Émilie — Google review

We didn't actually visit the castle although did climb up through the roads and alleys to the entrance. It was quite a lot to get in and I appreciate the cost of upkeep but we felt 30 Euro was excessive compared to other historic sites we've visited in the region (Castle @ Montelimar is worth a visit).

The Crocodile Farm is a remarkable ecological and conservatory farm that serves as a zoological and scientific reference for reptiles. With over 400 crocodiles, giant tortoises, various bird species, and an array of exotic plants, it offers an immersive experience in a tropical forest setting. Visitors can witness captivating animal feedings and educational presentations by the knowledgeable staff. This family-friendly attraction provides interactive shows throughout the day, making it an enjoyable experience for both children and adults alike.

Nice place to visit, over 350 crocodiles inside up to 5 meter. Incredible, and a lot of knowledge from the people who work there, and they are more than willing to share the knowledge.

Marc D — Google review

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the crocodile farm in France and I must say, it was a truly memorable experience! The crocodile farm offers an decent collection of snakes, crocodiles, turtles, and birds, all of which are beautifully maintained and cared for. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about these animals, and their enthusiasm is contagious. I learned so much during my visit and left feeling truly inspired. While the price of admission was on the higher side, I felt that it was more than worth it for the chance to see such incredible animals in person. And while I imagine that this experience would be especially fun for kids, I can say from personal experience that adults will still find plenty to enjoy as well.Overall, I highly recommend the crocodile farm to anyone with an interest in reptiles and other exotic animals. It is a rare and special opportunity to see these creatures up close and personal, and I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Craig 0 — Google review

It’s a wow place for sure. It starts with a small room with a few of animals. I thought that it would be the same but when you open the second door you are in a tropical forest! It’s so impressive. There are more than 350 crocodiles, many birds, snakes, turtles. The staff conduct small performances feeding animals and explaining interesting moments about reptiles and birds. There are a lot of exotic species and plants including coffee and cocoa! It’s pretty expensive- 19 euros per person - but it’s worth it for sure.

Kirill M — Google review

Very exciting to see so many crocodiles and reptiles. Especially for my two sons. But I felt bad for the animals which didn't have a lot of space. Many of them were in very small cages.

Astrid S — Google review

Amazing park with over 200(!!) crocodiles, and all sorts of birds, reptiles and more. Staff is super kind, know tons and love to share their knowledge. The hot dogs and fries are actually nice, and the outside play space is a great bonus for kids up to 12 years old. Fully recommend!

Jeanmichel M — Google review

Very good location to spent 2-2,5 hours. It's in a good shape. In september its really calm so they close a lot of food and drinking shops. At the end you can grap something to eat and drink.Maybe it should be better to open one shop at the children's playground. The children's playground is really good. The toilet could be better/cleaner. No toilet seat and environment friendly toilets are not the best ideas.

Guido M — Google review

Very well done and thought out. Tons of activities for children ages 2-10. A little hot and humid in the main area, which is for the health of the animals but would be good to tell people preparing their visit. A bit difficult for strollers.

Elise T — Google review

Visiting the reptile farm was an amazing experience that allowed me to connect with a diverse array of reptiles, both large and small. The interactive setup, complete with ladders and slides within the reptile enclosures, made it an exciting adventure for kids up to 12 years old. The variety of reptiles, including crocodiles, turtles, birds, snakes, and even exotic plants, showcased the beauty of the animal kingdom. Spending a good 2 to 3 hours there was just right to fully appreciate the collection, and if you're lucky enough to have extra time, you can quietly observe the intriguing subtleties of reptile behavior. While the snack and lunch area was a bit crowded, it was expected. Entrance for adults is a bit on the pricey side.

Doranne L — Google review

Amazing sanctuary for Crocodiles, Gators, Caimans and other reptiles. Hopefully they can continue to expand and create bigger enclosures for the animals!

Kevin B — Google review

Awesome and thorough park for crocodiles , turtles and other animals! It’s tricky in hot weather though - the frost third of the park is pretty stuffy and humid (naturally for the animals) but could use better ventilation or some fans for the humans. I had to leave my family early because it made me nauseous :( The main attractions really only start about 1/3-1/2 way through the visit so you kind of need to push through the beginning quickly. The playground area by the restaurant was cool and there were a few decent options for food. A lot of junk though (cookies, donuts, candy, etc) so it’s better to pack a picnic for smaller kids.Otherwise it was a great outing for our mixed group with kids ranging from 2-16.

Lisa A — Google review

Great day out with the kids. Even on a busy day, plenty of space to park. Worth booking tickets ahead of time so you can get in quickly. Make sure your crocodile passport gets all the stamps. And well priced snacks to be had while you have 20 mins rest and the kids play on the outdoor playground.

Simon F — Google review

We have been visiting this place now and then and it has always improved in variety and presentation: there are not only many kinds of crocodiles but also reptiles and a great variety of birds and fish: moreover the vegetation is exotic and it is wonderful to walk through the paths watching the life around and getting really close to some animals. The temperature inside is like in a greenhouse, but pleasant. We were able to see the feeding of the birds. There are some areas that are sometimes crowded and the restaurant shoud be improved in quality and comfort. The parking is available.

Monica P — Google review

Nice to see so many crocodiles that close. Nice place, nice people willing to tell all about the animals. Good restaurant with fair prices. Also fun for kids to climb around

Peter B — Google review

The crocodile farm is a good place to bring your family. Not only kids but also adults will enjoy it. It dispalys all sorts of crocodiles, turtles, birds and fishes. Multiple interactive shows are organized throughout the day. A number of food and drink options are offered. Count 2h30 to 3h for the visit.

So beautiful, one of the best in France

Star C — Google review

breathtaking views, lots of routes to walk and explore. the routes are very well marked, it is easy to find the way and the route, unfortunately, there are garbage on the route but I blame the tourists. nature is wonderful, there are birds circling over the cliffs, beautiful fish in the water, we saw goats, wild boars and hares. Fortunately, even when it's 40 degrees Celsius, you can find some shade between the trees. There are practically no people on the hiking trails, it's not bad on the water either, but it gets dangerous when kayaking people on both banks jump into the water, it's narrow and they are afraid to jump into a kayak. Also, a lot of people walk their dogs without a leash and they are not small dogs, which is not always comfortable. unfortunately, many people also take a loud speaker with them and play techno music, which is not always pleasant for those who seek silence.

Przemyslaw P — Google review

If you stop.you can see how beautiful in it is but by road there is not much to look at at all

Rossgoesrogue — Google review

Aug 23 What's this, I don't do five stars... This place of outstanding natural beauty has to be an exception. Extraordinary landscape seen largely from a (challenging) road. Don't miss it! The only minus is the hard sell everywhere on lavender. An unexpected plus the local liqueur made from chestnuts and served with white wine. Don't try this at home, but definitely worth a try on a hot summer day at a cafe overlooking the Ardeche.

Amazing sceneryCertainly one of the best sightseeing attractions in southern France. A river meandering through huge rock formations, partly exposed, partly covered in lush green vegetation. Rent a kayak and explore the canyon, hike through the canyon or just drive around and enjoy the scenery. Definitely worth a visit.

A stunningly beautiful area of France to visit. Amazing views along the road above and equally great views canoeing down below on the river. The road also is an excellent place for a bike ride if you like hills. (Though probably best to avoid in summer and start your ride early, it gets hot!)

Chris R — Google review

We hired canoes and completed the 31km journey in about 4 hours and 30 minutes (the river was running quite fast due to the rain).Great views and very quiet in late September.

Nick W — Google review

Lovely area. Some of the walking trials have fallen down trees over the path. In one particular area it appears to have significant storm damage and the path has been washed away and a bit of due diligence is needed at this point of the walk. Came across and hand full of walkers but generally a very quiet pleasant walk. Can be difficult is some areas, ensure you have plenty of fluids for this walk and substantial snacks to see you through. Moderate to difficult in ability

Grotte Chauvet 2 - Ardèche is a unique complex located about 7km northeast of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. This UNESCO-listed site is a replica of the original Grotte Chauvet cave and features around 1000 meticulously reproduced paintings, as well as approximately 450 bones and other debris.

Very impressive presentation of the very first human painting art in the world. Even the cave is a replica, you totally have the feeling of being in the real cave. I think it is fully acceptable that the original cave is not open for the public in order to preserve the original paintings. The interactive part of the exhibition well introduce the fauna of the ice age.

Didn't know what to expect as you see a replica of the caves not the real deal. Got to say its well done and once inside you soon forget your not in the real cave. The audio tour is available in English and switches automatically as you go through each section. It takes about 1 hour to walk the cave.

Jared E — Google review

Thank you so much for a truly life-changing experience. We had an guided tour in English and the guide was incredible. He was patient to answer all our questions after the tour. I could have spent many more hours inside the cave itself, but still had a magical experience. We enjoyed the museum exhibits as well. I'm surprised to say that the Grotte Chauvet 2 was one of our favourites from our two-week stay in the south of France. Can't stop thinking about it.

Book your spot in the grotto tour in advance! We arrived at 1pm (in April!) and the grotto was booked out for the day 😮 Museum is still worth a visit though! So is the temporary art installation "animal de la préhistoire" That was absolutely fantastic! We went twice in a row... 😁

Vera O — Google review

Absolutely worth a visit, there is so much to see at this site. But most impressive is the replicated cave. The attention to detail is amazing. The tour through the "cave" is slow and you get a real feel of how the real cave would appear.

Alexander L — Google review

The original cave must be amazing and one of the most important for humanity. The copy is a huge engineering and architecture achievement. However I could not stop wandering how well they reproduced the original paintings. I would have loved to look at the details of each piece but this point is mute when we consider a reproduction. The tour is rushed because they are more interested in making money.Facilities are not set up for large Amos of people, in the Cafe I had to wait 30 minutes for a warmed up sandwich.Overall very pleasant experience.

Ferenc B — Google review

I would give this place ten stars if it was possible. The cave is so interesting, it feels as if it was the real one, both for smell and darkness, and the guide explained the main paintings, and still also a number of minor drawings had been recreated and were visible. A second visit would also be interesting. The place also offers a park and an we could see an "moving" art exhibit which, although it had no connection with the archaeological visit, was surprising and great. There is plenty of parking and the place is easy to find (despite the winding road). It is forbidden to take photos in the cave as we were said the pictures are online.

Monica P — Google review

Great place to visit. Lots to see and do. Even though a replica the grotte was great.

Karen L — Google review

The whole tour is amazing. Delphine, our tourist guide was super fun and explained everything with such passion that I took off the headphones with the english version and I can assure you I understand her in french (I understand a bit of french normally).I know is a replica but is well made and the drawing are impressive. It's worth to visit it

Javiera Q — Google review

We arrived around 5 pm and wanted to visit the cave. At the entrance we were already told that we must pay the complete price, but not see everything because of "the storm“ (lame excuse). The funny thing is: At the same time, each point of visit is covered. We decided to visit the cave anyway. In the cave we got headphones to listen to the explanations in German. So far, so good. However, the guide didn't pay any attention to the foreign speakers at all. As soon as she finished explaining in French, she turned off the lights and we were left in the dark. When we left the cave, 40min before closing time, all places to visit were already closed. For this, 18€ was not worth it and the staff is also not helpful at all. If you do not speak French in the store, you are abandoned. For a tourist place really sad.

Josephine M — Google review

We just went here today and we had a very good experience! The first one we were not si fortunate as we followed Waze and google in English and we were brought to the original site so we had to add 25 minutes more I think to reach the site. We selected English for our daughter and we were lucky to be just the 3 of us! The tour was so intimate with our guide who was very knowledgeable and informative, we forgot to ask his name! But he answered every questions and showed us interesting things! We appreciated a lot of things because him! Removed the misconception that 30,000 years ago people were less developed, smaller and not so smart to than we are! But in fact no, they have bigger brains, worked only 6 hours and created this magnificent cave that is such a marvel!

Well I'm afraid it didn't quite hit the mark for a number of reasons. 1) we book a ticket for 15:30 and are then told we are late even though we were at the gate at 15:20. 2) You arrive at the entrance to the cave system. At the last minute you are told to download an App to be guided through the visit. Trouble is the site has very little phone signal (even the guide was laughing at that). 3) let's remember that this is a module of the real thing, but the guide says no photos and no videos. Why on earth not?! Sorry but I've €18 for this and want remember my visit... 4) OK, it looks inside but it is lifeless with no dampness, not cold enough and no sense of being in a real cave. 5) I guess I have to trust that this is a good replica of the real thing....We went in Late November. I can imagine summer is very busy.

This isn't even the real cave. Why are dogs not allowed? My dog might be a cleaner, quieter and more polite then you :-DViva La Chien!

Alex S — Google review

Loved the place. We arrived at around 9.30 for the 11.20 English language tour. This allowed us plenty of time to see the art installation, and the history of the area. The tours start promptly, so be there or be square. You also have headphones to hear your guide. Great idea, helps block out screaming kids.Very easy to walk if disabled. No steps and very gentle slopes.

Steve T — Google review

English description is longer than French tour and they switch the lights off before the description has ended. Better would be to remove the 30 second wait before the last part. Tour group too large to allow everyone to see each part of the cave whilst on the tour.

Sarah D — Google review

Hello, before I go to some caves, but here it is different level. We like it very much.Usually people explain that you need 3h to pass the area. Even the bad whether we need more to see all what we want.

Georgi ( — Google review

Absolutely INCREDIBLE.I had the English tour which was a small group. The tour was incredibly detailed and complete. They made such a beautiful reconstruction of the Grotte Chauvet. The area around is very spacious with bushlands and paths to walk around. There’s a lot to see. You can definitely make a day of it here. They also have an aire du camp car for camper vans where you can park.Fantastic area.Really impressed.

Tara U — Google review

It was awesome experience there. Cave is a replica. I have been to many different caves and this one looked pretty real. I liked it a lot. Plan your trip in advance. They have English guided tours to the cave at a specific time so we waited for two hours. There is a place to have your own lunch.

Stanislav H — Google review

Really very interesting to go to. it looks so really nicely done. I really recommend it. just go you won't regret it. There is a large cafeteria and gift shop. you are left in groups of 12. yes it is a replica cave but a very good one !!!

Mark’s W — Google review

Fantastic experience, BUT the English audio lasted longer, and the guide switched off the light, so we couldn't see what the audio was describing, there were lots of people and no need for the guide to turn off the lights!!!!!!!!!

Patty W — Google review

I have to admit that firstly I hesitated to go as it is about a replica of the real Chauvet cave. After reading all the good comments we did go and do not regret this! It is really great. We did go with 3 kids 12, 14 and 16 and there is an app that you can download upon the entrance and which will guide you through the cave with good intervals in different languages. Even in Dutch which was perfect for us and the kids. Please don't go with very young kids as it is only disturbing for others. Once you are in the cave it is like you are in the real one.

Monument

Sights & Landmarks

Palais Idéal is a unique and fascinating historic landmark located in Hauterives, Drome. This extraordinary monument was built by a postman named Cheval over the course of 33 years. It is adorned with inscriptions of his poetry and stands as a testament to his dedication and creativity. The site has become a popular destination for visitors, offering an opportunity to explore the surreal construction that embodies someone's dream.

Wow! What a determination and passion to build his dream place. There are so many details. You can spend hours looking around. Jean-Michel Othoniel's exhibition was great too.

Claire J — Google review

It’s worthwhile to visit this attraction and enjoy the small, peaceful villages nearby. This man is amazing to dedicate his 33 years for building an art work which gives benefits for the town’s government and brings a lots of works for the village as well as the enjoyment for the visitors.

Mai L — Google review

What a great place to explore the mind of a genius. Every corner of this place has a surprise. Walked around it 5 times, each time I found something different.

Mathias F — Google review

It is definitely worth the time to drive to this nice monument and learn about the beautiful history behind it. A brilliant mailman built this palace for his daughter in 33 years by himself. There's even a beautiful movie about this true story called “L’incroyable histoire du facteur Cheval”.There is a museum nearby as well. It’s a good place for visiting with kids. They would be happy to find all of the objects on a map they get before entering. I highly recommend this destination.

Mandy P — Google review

This is an amazing experience. Walking through one man’s artistic vision is impressive. There is a nice movie about his life you can watch and other artist’s work that are homages to Ferdinand Cheval. You should also to a few moments and go to the cemetery where he built another structure because they wouldn’t allow him to be buried on site.

Anna Z — Google review

Smaller place than expected, but nice visit. What a way to spend a life

Bern M — Google review

Unique building, amazing to believe that one single man, without arquitecture experience can build this master piece alone. Really unique

Carlos — Google review

What a gift to literally walk into someone's dream! This surreal construction awakened the child in me as well as what it means to be dedicated to something .The combination with Othoniel's work is perfect . I suggest going whilst still there .Consider from 0:45 to 2:30 to visit the place (depending on your sensitivity)There is also grass and benches to rest and hang around .Bars and glaciers just outside the premises.Enjoy!

Maud P — Google review

This place is just wonderful, i can't imagine this was built by a single guy who traveled 45km to collect stones from the nearby river and build this naive architecture. A must visit site.

Yuvashankar M — Google review

One of my favorites, a must see in Isere. The masterpiece is mesmerizing, reminds me of Sagrada Familia, the difference is this one is achieved by one person...truly admire the great postman !

Siming — Google review

If you want to get the most exciting experience form the visit of the place I can recommend watching a movie about this place which tells about a romantic idea behind this famous work of art of a postman. It motivates and empowers when you see how one idea may spark the flame of creativity and self confidence. It’s not just a monument of naive art but it’s a story of a person who made the dream come true. The visit is not so expensive as you also can take a look at the exhibition in the museum and buy some souvenirs. There’re lots of tourists. So better to arrive earlier to have a chance to take a photo of the palace with less people walking around.

Kirill M — Google review

It's hard to review this without partial stars. As the life labor of love of one man, I'd give this monument 4/4.5 stars. As a destination, one on a little town in the middle of nowhere Farmville france, I'd give it 3/3.5 stars. So, I'll give it a weak 4 stars. That is to say, if you have nothing to do, it's convenient to you and want to see something cool for 1 to 2 hours. Do it.The cost is eur9.50 each adult.I suspect it's FAR busier and more expensive and less pleasant in the warmer months though. The grounds need maintenance for certain and I wonder if they do light shows and special events. Doesn't look like they do, but they should.Pro tip... if you're outside the entrance, use the bathroom next to the city hall.

HA R — Google review

The story of the Postmand who build this "Palace" is simply outstanding. The amount of hours and work spend on creating this place is amazing. The Palace it self is a true work of art, and the more you look at it the more you see. We spend about 1,5 hours at this place, and I am still amazed as I write this. This is a testament of will power, dedication and hard work. It cost 9,5 Euro for adults and 6,5 for children. You are not allowed to carry backpacks since it is narrow, but there is boxes for storing backpacks while you visit the site. Parking was relatively easy, but most of parking is for cars below 2,2 meters. All text in the museum is in French, but Google Lens will help you with this. If you are in the area, do not hesitate to go see this, and read the story.

René A — Google review

This place is magical. I am amazed at the effort this guy must have put in to build such an amazing monument. We spent over an hour looking at all the words he had written as he grew his work. What was a little strange was the visit to the museum next to it. I'm not sure the piece about the house (not Facteur Cheval) actually work

Simon F — Google review

This was suuuuuper cool. Give yourself extra time because there are so many parts to see of this. The staff who sold us our tickets was very nice and allowed us to stay a bit longer (we got there 15 minutes before closing, and didn't stay much longer, but could have)

Laura P — Google review

It's definitely worth a visit. It's the sort of place you need to spend some time looking at. The more you look, the more you see. The story behind the building is very interesting, and it's amazing what one person can create over time. Lots of free parking.

Chris T — Google review

Perhaps the craziest human adventure in time built by a single man, Mr. Cheval with all his daily poetry offered us what man can do best, the greatness of his imagination in the course of his postal tours. Absolutely great, absolutely wonderful, this guy is just a great poet.

X R — Google review

It is an exceptional place with a beautiful and wonderful story. As the former minister of culture said, the only naive art building in the world.

Jorge B — Google review

Visiting the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval is like stepping into a whimsical dreamscape woven from the imagination of a true visionary. This architectural marvel, crafted by the humble postman Ferdinand Cheval, transcends mere description. Every corner boasts a kaleidoscope of intricate sculptures and intricate masonry, a testament to Cheval's unyielding dedication and creativity. The sheer audacity and poetry in the construction, comprising an amalgamation of various styles and influences, evoke a sense of wonder and awe. This enchanting haven transports visitors to a realm where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary, making it a destination that defies expectations and leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

Amusem*nt park with roller coasters & rides for young children, plus an island-themed water park.

A very nice amusem*nt park that can be done in a day time. The attractions here range from soft and slow to extremely thrilling. They have several rollercoasters, water rides, chill rides for adults and kids. A dedicated eating spot is also available for when hunger hits.I should not forget to mention the staff. The staff members are extra nice too.Overall a very fun place for a family visit.

It a nice small park good for young children. If you are visiting it for the first or second time then you may feel different however, I have visited it at least once every year and it's been a long time since they have introduced any new rides to the park or any changes if any at all. Food options are very minimal and staff do not speak English 98% of the time. Shops are very basic and shows are very limited.

A. D — Google review

Don't go there if you're not thin. Above a L or 46, you will not fit in most rides. The staff was really nice and kind about it but I felt thorougly humiliated. They gave me fast passes for other rides instead but I couldn't fit either, and I'm an 48/0XL. It was even more demorilizing as I've lost a lot of weight recently lolI gave 2 stars for the really really nice staff who were very kind to me and checked that I was doing fine as kids were making fun of me. For context, this never happened in any other parks I did in Europe, including Walibi Belgium and Disney for example. I wish their rides were more inclusive.

On May 8, we had relatively little wait even for the biggest attractions (20/25min max) which was pleasant. Our son is 1m10 tall and was able to do the majority of the attractions, with medium and small sensations.Too bad however, several (totem, air boat) were not open (a priori checks are made every morning and they did not obtain them) yet the price remains at the initial price 🙃 and we were faced with “technical problems” several times during the day but the technicians reacted quickly. As for food/drink it's not cheap but at the same time in which park is food not expensive? You can leave the park to eat and come back if necessary.

Manège en panne plusieurs fois dans la journée.(Translated by Google)Mixed opinions on this human-sized amusem*nt park, but which all have one thing in common: it is obviously the waiting time!Endless queues for attractions, even for baby rides…In fact, the golden rule to be able to do the attractions is to come on a rainy day, but especially not on a day when the weather is nice.Even to get an ice cream, it’s a 30-minute queue in full sun.Ride broken down several times during the day.

I had the opportunity to visit here over the summer and was pleasantly surprised by how charming and fun this little park was. Of all the rides there, my personal favorite was TImber as it felt very fast paced and did a great job combining thrills into a family coaster. Most of the park looks very nice after all the changes in the past couple years and I am very exited to see the new updates next year when they build their newest area!

Theodoros M — Google review

Very clean and well maintained park. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the rides are fun and entertaining for adults, youth and younger kids. Toilets are also very clean. Ride waiting times are clearly displayed throughout the park. The live show we saw was definitely entertaining. We went on a Friday in July and the queues were generally less than 10 minutes on most rides. Everyone had a blast and I can highly recommend going here for a day.Small note for Apple users; if you order your tickets online (much cheaper that way) and use the “hide my email” feature (aka private relay) you won’t receive any tickets by mail. This is a known issue on their side. Make sure you save your proof of payment and reservation ID and visit to the service desk at the entrance of the park and they will fix it for you.Have fun!

Had a lovely day out here. Queues weren't too long and most of them had a good amount of shade. The park was clean and tidy and the facilities were clean too. The food was good and not too expensive. If you have younger children or it is a really hot day(which it was when we went) take towels and swimwear as the splash park is a great place to cool down. Pour respecter vos clients vendez moins de billet, embauchez plus de personnel, augmentez la capacité de vos attractions quand c’est possible(Translated by Google)Visit yesterday the park is nice the diving show great BUT too much waiting everywhere too few staff even to eat hell not an adult attraction less than 50 minutes all day and for children attractions an average of 20 to 30 minutes. 2 mechanical horses??? -> 30 minutes wait. Purchase tickets at least 3 days before - and you will be in for a treat. Took my son for his birthday, which is just before Halloween. Dr Mystic and his spooky crew made it a day to remember. Yes - the wait was long for some of the rides - but it was worth it.Great atmosphere, great rides, great day. Thank you to all the lovely staff at Walibi!!

Strong sensations and more moderate sensations for the little ones. Kind and smiling staff. A small downside, a security guy at the entrance on the personal telephone who seems to be disturbing and who allows himself to think.

Prefer this place than Disneyland, you can comfortably cover all activities without a fastpass (I guess only on low season). Park is nicely crafted and decorated, the rides are just great 👍

The Couriot Musée de la Mine in Saint-Etienne is a museum dedicated to mining and the history of the area. The museum has an 8-acre park and picnic areas that give visitors a glimpse into life as a miner in the early 20th century. The guided tour includes information about how miners worked and lived, as well as modern high-speed elevators that take visitors down into the mine for a cart ride and walkthrough.

The best excuse to visit Saint Etienne. Plenty of information in open exhibitions as well as a guided tour through the facility. The tour includes a visit down the mine and a short ride on an operational mine train. Our tour guide, Chloe, was fantastic. She obviously enjoys her job and makes everyone excited to learn more as she explains everything with such passion and humour. The facility is in a relatively good state and the exhibitions within the mine help you travel back through time with examples of mines throughout the ages. I would highly recommend visiting this museum if you find yourself at Saint Etienne as the town has little else worth your time.

Awesome museum !I highly recommend doing a guided visit. You will go underground and see how a charcoal mine is. The guide was very nice and very informative.

Good experience, although you can't go down a real mine. But it's nice to see how they worked down there.

The parc-musée de la mine, Saint-Etienne:I recommend this visit! The museum of the mine of Saint-Etienne is a real witness of the history and the culture of the region. Indeed, I chose to visit this museum because if the activity of the mines ceased a long time ago, these last ones contributed to the formation of the region and they are always part of the landscape and the « Stéphanois » heritage. This visit deeply marked me. Indeed, by discovering the mine one is quickly challenged by the extreme and sometimes dehumanizing conditions in which the miners worked. The deserted character of some rooms is sometimes chilling as for example « la salles des pendus », however it is easy to imagine in this quiet room the noisy activity which took place there a few decades ago.The guided tour lasts one hour and fifteen minutes and is free for children, I found the guides fascinating, they lead us into the depths of the mine, putting us in the conditions of the miners. It is difficult to get bored, and even children can understand a lot from this visit. Finally, at the end of the guided tour, it is possible to go to rooms that retrace the history of this place, of social struggles that took place on it and of the city of Saint-Etienne, thanks to models and archive images. I recommend the visit of these rooms to history buffs!

This museum is a former coal mine. Super interesting to visit if you pass by and you are interested in this kind of stuff. If you book in advance a guided tour (organised by the museum), you will also have the opportunity to visit a replica of the mine galleries, which includes a short underground train ride (underground facilities are not open to visitors with a regular entry ticket, guided tour only). Suitable for children. Everything is in French, though.

AJ M — Google review

A lot of informations about a time where Coal is 'Gold'. You can see how the miners work and lives in Saint-Étienne.

Amazing museum that takes you back in time. We didn’t have time for the guided tour but still enjoyed it a lot. Free entry for students and young people under 25. Thank you for the experience!

A wonderful exposure to the life of the miners the mine tour experience is well worth it if you're in the area, they fully emerse you in atmosphere when underground, you can smell the coal. Great way to spend a rainy day

Alex G — Google review

Very interesting bit of French/European history. The guided tour we took was in French, didn't ask if they offer in other languages but you can visit everything top side without the guide.

Samuel H — Google review

Good museum of a retired mine. However, the tour is only in French. We joined anyway and going down into the mine was interesting enough by itself.Hopefully they will add a tour in English in the future.

Great zoo, well set out. You walk through a path up hill which basically give you outlook of each animals from different point view. The ape greenhouse is charming, and very pleasant to visit. It’s a lovely park in general. Whom does only have rescued animals who were otherwise destined to a way worse lifestyle than they have over there

Erick A — Google review

Zoo is closed!! We drove 1 hour to come here, but it is closed. At google, it is declared as open.

Familie H — Google review

Conservation focused zoo with quite a lot of interesting primate exhibits (amongst a lot of other types of animals). Big enough that you can spend a few hours here but also not so big that it has to take up your entire day.The zoo is positioned up a hill so there is some elevation change during your walk through but the park is entirely accessible (wheelchairs of course, but that means also strollers too Mamas… even enough room through entrances and pathways for huge American double strollers). And the layout of the enclosures up the hill allows for really good viewing of the animals in their enclosures.

The Musee des Confluences is a futuristic museum with an eclectic and fascinating collection of exhibits relating to both natural sciences and anthropology. The building, located in close proximity to the Perrache train station, is home to a permanent exhibition that tells the story of Earth and humanity as they intersected in both natural history and culture. Highlights of the exhibition include mammoth skeletons and mummies set against a playful modern backdrop, as well as giant whales and dolphin skeletons.

Cutting-edge building and unique site. Interactive museum for all ages. Their temporary expositions are as amazing as their permanent ones. The view from the building and its terraces over the confluence of Rhône and Saône as well as the city also worth a visit.

Peti S — Google review

This museum has a varied selection of items contained within a large futuristic looking building. There is one floor of temporary exhibitions and another with permanent collections. It feels like one of those educational museums that children will enjoy more than adults (there were several school groups on the Friday I visited), though there's just enough to make it worthwhile for adults too - I personally really enjoyed seeing and reading about the impressive collection of minerals and fossils. All information in French and English. Took me about 2 hours to see everything.

Jeremy K — Google review

Had such a great time here, we visited during the peak of heat wave so we got free entry! But it would have worth spending money for the ticket anyway! The exhibitions are very well curated. Even my friend who doesn’t normal goes to museum also enjoyed it! The information were very English speaker friendly.Such a shame that we only had less than 2 hours to go through everything. Would love to come back again one day

Olivia L — Google review

The museum is truly a wonder. It offers a rich tapestry of art, history, and culture. Each exhibition is a journey in itself, a voyage through time and creativity. From ancient artifacts that whisper stories of the past to contemporary masterpieces that push the boundaries of artistic expression, there's something to captivate every visitor. The depth and diversity of the collections are awe-inspiring. So, take your time, soak it all in, and let the museum's treasures unfold before you, creating a memorable and enriching experience that leaves you with a deeper appreciation for the beauty of human creativity and our shared history.

Philipp G — Google review

The architecture and garden of the museum is something to see in itself. Only had time for one temporary exhibit, but it was done extremely well. Given the sensitivity of the topic, representations of Native Americans over time, it was a job well done.

Nicholas F — Google review

My review refers to the external structure, as I have not had the opportunity to visit it internally. Well, it really is a very, very strange structure, even if it is useful to be able to shelter from the hot Lyon sun and it is also located in a fairly nice area of the Confluence district. Anyway, I've heard that the museum inside is really nice!

Andrea N — Google review

Incredible place! The collections were very well organized and there’s a lot of interactive area too - mindblowing experience of touching a meteorite piece or dinosaur fossil. There’s a lot to see so reserve a whole afternoon for it at least. There’s a lot of Asia/Africa cultural objects and art, amazing fossils and quality taxidermy. Staff was kind and helpful. Museum accessible in English. Entrance free of charge with City Card (2023). Architects totally allowed to freak out!! Awesome views of the rivers, good place to sit and watch the boats.

Alexandra K — Google review

An interesting museum mostly about human, animals, history and culture. Very organized and interestingly presented. The architecture is modern as well. The staff are polite and nice. The entrance price was logical as well. All info were available in English. 👍

N.O.D M — Google review

This was a highlight of my trip to Lyon. A very well done museum with several temporary and permanent exhibits. My favourite was the taxidermy/tree of life/exciting animal exhibit. Notable things include the skeleton of a mammoth, massive whale, dinosaur, pterodactyl’s, dodo bird and elk. The temporary exhibit of the photographer Marc Riboud was very interesting showing some very real moments throughout history. Worth noting to spend more time in the permanent exhibits than the temporary ones to make sure you have enough time to see the important things.

Dorian M — Google review

Disappointing. The permanent exhibition remains unsatisfactory, somehow does not go deep enough or wide enough… rather superficial and with not really too much to show … did’t like it. But then, I’m not into ethnography much myself. On the contrary the building is stunning!! Wonderful architectural daring ideas that was great to see come to life there! I could not stop to look around in the corridors and in the stairs and enjoy the openness and energy of the place!

Fernando B — Google review

One of the best museum experiences I ever had! It is such an interesting museum! It is really modern and everything is also in English. It has exhibitions about Life, Death, Evolution and the Human Experience in general. I recommend it to everyone.

Babis K — Google review

Great museum with amazing architecture and great exhibits. The building itself is worth the visit. The museum has several permanent and temporary exhibits which are very interesting and interactive (Even the kids enjoy them). The upstairs cantine has good options for meals or snacks and the museum shop has a great selection of beautiful objects. I enjoyed it so much, I had to get the yearly pass!

Mira M — Google review

It was the best museum we have ever visited. If you need to visit one museum in Lyon or even in France, let it be this one. Each exhibition was special but especially the one dedicated to the history of the world and universe was simply brilliant. It was full of inherently interesting artefacts and rare objects like real star dust or remains of prehistoric animals. I was always wondering why such exhibitions about the most interesting topics for humanity are not common to find. The other exhibition about the society and knowledge was mesmerising and thought provoking too. Everything was so interesting and beautiful that we came back the next day to continue, so I would recommend at least 3-4 hours to spend there. And it was free for students under 26 years old!

Erkin N — Google review

Ok museum with educational themes. As a tourist, I found some sections/articles without English translation which was a bit disappointing. The employees speak English very well and are very kind and helpful. Yet, there are a lot of kids at the museum which kinda make the atmosphere very noisy at points. Some galleries like the African section could have been more attractive. Some galleries also have a very long waiting queue. Try to get yourself to the fifth floor because you get a gorgeous view of the city. It’s a must-see, especially at sunset. Overall, I give this museum a 6.5/10.

Sina A — Google review

Visited in December 2023 There are temporary and permanent exhibitions. Some of the exhibits are interactive. I really liked "Africa, thousand lives of objects" (The life of 230 objects, from their design to their various uses) and "Secrets of there Earth" (Penetrate the depths of the Earth and discover the planet's mineral riches). In fact, to see all the exhibitions of the museum one should spend a day there.

Iryna K — Google review

We really loved our visit to this museum. It offers a wide variety of subjects and perspectives on the universe, our planet, humans and what unites us. I especially loved the temporary exposition about the discovery of the Antarctic (those visuals and sounds 😲). Also the permanent exposition on the birth of our universe was amazing. Special shout-out for adding the short documentary of Cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo... it's heartbreaking 💔

Stijn F — Google review

I recommend for tourist / visitors. The museum is really interesting with different focus on science, human history, biology.. I would suggest to visit it in two steps

We didn't actually go inside to see any of the exhibitions. We went to the top floor to take in the views & you don't have to pay to do that. The building was designed to look like clouds. Even the light fixtures in the cafe were shaped like clouds. Really enjoyed the views.

If you want to see real pieces of the moon and Mars, or you want to touch a piece of bone of a prehistoric dinosaur, if you want to see a real mommy and touch a real fossilized skull of a rhino, then this is definitely the place to go. An amazing experience and very informative and entertaining museum. Don’t miss it

Tarek K — Google review

As a student you don’t have to pay anything to get into this museum. There are temporary exhibitions and permanent ones. Was a nice break to visit. We spent more than 2 hours in here.

Navya S — Google review

Some interesting exhibits. For me, the permanent exhibits were more interesting than the temporary ones (forrest, love, geology, epidemics) although all were well presented. I liked that they had iyems that were specifically marked as able to be touched, for example a meteorite they think came from a star. There are two ticket machines in the foyer (on the left, not well signposted). You have to exit to the south past the giftshop, even though the public transport is to the north.

this small town lies on a hill east of Lyon. it takes around 45 minutes to drive to this authentic medieval town. The current rebuild dates back to the mid 1400's. it has long been an important area for trade and early warning to Lyon of approaching armies. around 400 people live within the walls. there are a few businesses that can support tourists (restaurant, shops), but not many. A two hour visit accompanied by a knowledgeable guide can provide insight into the 500 year history of this place

This museum is devoted to hyper-realistic miniature scenes and movie props, as well as special effects exhibits. It is another unusual attraction that many tourists find fascinating. The museum has over 400 pieces of movie memorabilia, including costumes, accessories, and sets. Additionally, the museum houses a collection of 120 miniature movie sets meticulously created by artist Dan Ohlmann. Visitors can enjoy posing in front of dinosaurs or walking through a miniature version of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

A really great museum and fantastic way to spend an hour or two in Lyon. The first few floors are props, costumes and other items from major films. These are all pretty interesting, but the highlight is in the top floor. A series of absolutely incredible miniature scenes painstakingly created with astounding details. I could look at them for ages, marvelling at the skill. Never seen anything like it. My photos here are all models, no more than 2 feet across.

James R — Google review

A fabulous museum. I last visited in 1998 when it was miniatures only and the highlight was Bible verses on a grain of rice. Now it has a wonderful display of cinematic props and models, costumes, prosthetics, weapons and other artifacts. Wes Anderson has his own gallery. The miniature rooms on the top floor are simply amazing, both intricate and beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Ian D — Google review

This is one of my favorite museums in France and is a great museum for a movie fan. You could spend a lot of time there without being bored. There are a lot of nice props, costumes, and film technologies, etc that are amazing. My favorite part of this museum is the miniature part. The miniatures are so incredible, and painstakingly created. I can visit and spend ages looking at all of them, and still not be bored at all. Dan Ohlmann and other artists have done a wonderful job, and I would like to thank them for creating such an amazing museum like this. I highly recommend visiting this museum when you are visiting Lyon.

Mandy P — Google review

Visited this place a little bit before closing and I had to fight myself to believe that it was miniature. The first floor is major film props like Harry Potter, but the top floor is the main standout, A collection of incredibly detailed miniature scenes that were meticulously built. You could be amazed at the skill for a very long time, next to nothing you've ever seen. All of the images of the sets are pressed to the window, no more than 15 cm.

Prince A — Google review

I came to this museum because I had access to it with the Lyon City Card pass (super easy to use when visiting Lyon). I really enjoyed this museum; it had 4-5 floors with 8-9 different exhibits. It’s a nice tourist attraction for cinephile and families that enjoy looking at movie props. I spent probably 1h30 doing all the floors and could’ve spent much longer if I wasn’t on a tight schedule. There is lineup to get in here, but it wasn’t long (probably 15-20 mins wait). I recommend this museum to all that visit Lyon, especially if you want to escape the afternoon summer heat.

Alex — Google review

A privately owned museum that will delight film buffs and newbies alike! The ticket paid for itself with the ground-floor Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade sidecar (a reproduction that you can get in and photograph), as well as the idol from Raiders (that you can also play and photograph yourself with). I won't spoil your fun with more details: just know it is totally worth visiting 😊

Wow, wow, wow! A must-see, awesome for adults and children! Spend some time. The building itself is worth the visit! Amazing 🇨🇦

Kari Q — Google review

Brilliant if you are a movie fan. Real sets, props and costumes from some the biggest movies in history. Some of the displays maybe a little upsetting for very small children, but otherwise very family friendly. The building is very old and atmospheric. Loved the Alien Queen as used in AVP and the Predator costume.

Shaun M — Google review

From the outside, the museum looks very small. This place has nine floors, stacked in a beautiful building in Lyon's old town. The miniature exhibits are out of this world. They are meticulously designed and illustrated with lighting. The cinema part of the museum is also fun. Do not miss this place if you are in Lyon.

4 floors. 9 rooms. More than 500 items from Hollywood film studios and other studios from the world! Incredible experience. I literally saw decorations and costumes from original Star Wars, Back to the future, Batman, Spider-Man (all movies that were made before the digital era) - all these amazing things! These emotions and feelings have to be experienced. Thanks to Dan Ohlmann for collecting it!

Kirill M — Google review

This museum was so incredibly amazing, we loved it! So many great movie props, costumes and prosthetics from the actual movie productions - what a collection! I was especially blown away by the miniatures collection on the top floor. I could have spent all day looking at each scene; the talent of the artist who constructs them is otherworldly. Definitely check this one out!

It's rare that you go to a museum that's truly different and spectacular at the same time, but this is exactly what this is. You start with visiting various parts of the set of the movie Perfume. Then there are a few floors containing various items used in many popular movies. You finish at the top floor containing lots of absolutely stunning miniatures used in films. Overall a brilliant experience and I'd say this is a must for any movie fans visiting Lyon.

Vlad S — Google review

An enjoyable museum with displays of props and costumes from film and a lovely exhibition of miniatures. The Lyon City Pass allows discounted tickets at €5 instead of €16.

Stephen L — Google review

Came here over 7 years ago and I returned today. Such an endearing place, a Lyon must and, if you love films/design, you will enjoy it so much.My only comment is that it lacks accessibility; the elevator was not working and the exhibitions are inaccessible unless you go up and down some slipper stairs over and over again.Love place!!

Issa H — Google review

Fantastic! Set in an amazing multi story building. Lots of neat movie props and history as well. Information signage is English too. The miniatures on the top floors are lifelike and excellent in the recreation.Well worth the cost of admission and set inside the old town so lots of great stuff to see nearby too.Highly recommend!

rodvac — Google review

What a lovely museum.I did enjoy it more than I thought that I would. You need at least 2hrs.Recommended when in Lyon.

D L — Google review

Definitely a larger focus on older movies in this museum which is only natural. I’d say you need to be 25 or older to understand everything but it’s easy to appreciate for movie fans. Lots of cool props, the sets are rather niche but cool as are the miniature sets.

Evan S — Google review

When visiting Lyon, I didn’t have the intention to visit this museum. It was the beautiful reddish building that attracted me and I am very thankful. It was a beautiful experience, many interesting surprises and mesmerising pieces. Totally recommend

Douae A — Google review

An amazing museum with so many items that would turn the heads of movie addicts. Real items that were used in blockbuster movies. The miniature part of the museum is really unbelievable, the level of details is incredible. A highly recommended destination whenever in Lyon

Tarek K — Google review

If you are a fan of movie “ Perfume”, this museum is a must visit. They have the whole movie set of the movie. They have plenty props, costumes and movies set from countless movies. The museums organized very well.

Basilica

Sights & Landmarks

The Basilica Notre Dame de Fourviere is a neo-Byzantine religious confection of Roman columns and religious iconography, located in Lyon, France. Its towering exterior is meant to impress with its gleaming marble, gold gilt, fantastic stained glass and hallucinogenic ceiling, making it one of the city's most popular attractions.

Our Lady of Fourvière is an imposing church on the top of the hill with panoramic views of almost the entire city of Lyon. Inside, the rich decoration gives a grandeur to the temple that fixes you. I believe it is the most important attraction of the city without this meaning that this beautiful city does not have many hidden beauties for the traveler. Also for the climb to the hill I highly recommend the picturesque wagon with the cog railway.

Panagiotis D — Google review

The church is located up the hill of Lyon city, the view is spectacular. You can see almost all the building in Lyon. Also the church and art are beautiful both in and out. It is not crowded by the time I visited. It is easy to get here by train. Recommended to come as it must be the bucket-list for Lyon city!

Pongpisut T — Google review

Very beautiful place. Just outside is the splendid view o of the city. Try to get the timing. Right so you can see the sun setting over the city. It’s really breathtaking.

Tirthankar S — Google review

Great view from this hill. Take F2 line up and enjoy the long downhill stroll through old town. Also check out the amphitheatre nearby before you head down.

Jared L — Google review

The Basilica is beautiful inside and out, especially when seen up on the hill. The view looking out over Lyon is even better, you can see for miles and look down on all the other landmarks that you probably walked past on your way to this one. Stunning.

Evan S — Google review

A beautiful piece of art. A great location to enjoy the view of city from the height. It is an equivalent of scare couer of Paris but maybe slightly better I feel. You can either walk uphill to this place, or can take a cable train or even a car since the place is well connected with roads.

Shreyansh J — Google review

The interior of this basilica is not to be missed and it’s a short funicular ride to get there and back. Views of Lyon from the hilltop were lovely and you can see all the way to the snow-covered Alps.

Kathy T — Google review

Mosaics, stained glass and paintings are more impressive than many places I have seen architecturally and artistically. The location is very good and you can see Lyon from a bird's eye view. We went on foot, I recommend everyone to go out by walking.

Oguzhan K — Google review

I think it is the most beautiful place of worship in Lyon and I think it is difficult to say otherwise. It is definitely a place that amazes externally and internally indeed and it can be seen from literally every corner of the city center of Lyon! It can be reached by funicular and from the hill you can enjoy a splendid view! Admission is free and it is possible to take photos.

Andrea N — Google review

A beautiful, ornate cathedral that I would highly recommend visiting for anyone who appreciates such places. It probably won't be quiet, as it's a big draw in the city, but it won't matter. And there is a great view from just outside the cathedral as well as a restaurant and café. Parking your bike isn't super easy, is my only criticism, as there doesn't seem to be any dedicated spaces for them. However, I was pretty easily able to put it somewhere.

Alex J — Google review

Visiting this magnificent cathedral provides an opportunity to appreciate the exquisite beauty of architecture, transcending its purely religious significance. It is highly recommended to maintain a sense of decorum, refraining from raising your voice, and respecting the solemn atmosphere during Masses when exploring the cathedral.Upon concluding your visit, you can savor a splendid panoramic view of the city from the nearby lookout point and indulge in a delightful coffee and snack at the outdoor café in close proximity.

Yarob B — Google review

While spending the day in Lyon we saw this beautiful white church high on a hilltop. We found an old funicular (one of the only four in the world) to take us to the church. The ride was unique but sadly passed through tunnels without any views. Once we got out, we saw this beautiful church both inside and out. In the crypt area, they had an exhibit about the cloth of Turin. There are also spectacular views of Lyon at the backside of the church. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area...

Jeff W — Google review

This is an amazing Notre Dame! One of the best I’ve seen in France. There’s a few way to reach it, there is a metro station stop directly in front, you can climb up the steep steps and the steep hike they Jardin de rosary (which we did) or you can drive up and park nearby. Highly recommended.

Dan H — Google review

Very beautiful church. The priest passing by greeted my family and I sitting in the pews and struck up a conversation in my native language, my children loved it. It was a great heart warming welcome for the children as it was their first time in Europe and inside a church.A side note, as a visitor to any holy place, please be respectful, keep your voice down and control your children. Always make sure you are aloud to take pictures (never assume you are allowed to take pictures just because there are pictures online). While we were there there was was woman who thought that everyone in the church couldn't hear her.

Just had an incredible experience at the Notre-Dame Basilica Fourvière in Lyon! 🙌✨ The journey to reach this magnificent landmark was absolutely worth it. Climbing the steps up the hill, taking in the stunning views of the city along the way, and finally standing in awe of the basilica's beauty – it's a memory I'll cherish forever. Lyon, you never cease to amaze me! 😍🏰 #NotreDameBasilicaFourviere #LyonExploration #UnforgettableViews

An absolutely gorgeous place to visit with some incredible architecture. A great view of Lyon from above at the back of the basilica. It was quite busy when we visited in the middle of the day, so it was not the best time to appreciate everything in a peaceful atmosphere.

Shannon T — Google review

About 15 mins after you cross the bridge into Old Town. It’s a long upward ascent to the Basilica, but the view at the top makes it all worth it. The architecture is beautiful and the Priests were also very welcoming when we went inside. Recommended to visit.

This is quite simply one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. The Stained Glass windows are wonderful, especially around the altar. The mosaics around the knave are incredible. The views are spectacular. The external building is so well cared for.

One of the most spectacular places to visit in Lyon during the summer. You are able to see the city of Lyon from the terrace of basilica and in the middle of the summer this place can be quite crowded. If there is no clouds the view can be amazing as most buildings starts to reflect the sunlight, making a unique view. Inside the basilica is spectacular with French architecture is showing its best of times. Good place to pray as well if you are keen on doing so.

Tharindu A — Google review

Absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the river and the city. The funiculaire was quite busy to go up, so I walked instead. The walk was moderately challenging with lots of steps. I took the funiculaire back down, and it was much less busy on the way down. There is so much to see at the Bassilica. Check out the crypt and the chapel for Mary, too. Beautiful

Anthony M — Google review

Impressive cathedral overlooking Lyon from the top of the hill. Very particular architecture design. It is quite impressive from both outside and inside. The entrance is free and not much to wait to enter. You can visit both the cripta and the main church.

Luca — Google review

We walked through both floors and around the Basilica and it was very amazing. Tons of extremely impressive mosaics and lots of gold. A very amazing and dramatic view. They very well explain all the mosaics and art in the hall. The descriptions are only in French so make sure you either have your translating camera or someone to read the descriptions to you if you need as they are quite interesting. The lower floor was super unique showing different countries views on the church which isn’t super common it feels.

Dorian M — Google review

A beautiful cathedral overlooking the city of Lyon. The church is a functioning place of worship so please treat the area with utmost respect. The intricate details on ceilings and walls show how much the people cherish their religion. Downstairs there's a crypt that one can visit. Don't forget to go behind the church to see a beautiful panorama of Lyon. Best way to get here is to take the furnicular.

Ryan C — Google review

Magnificent basilica and not a castle as it looks from afar. Also spectacular view from the monument's terrasse. A view only beaten by Mont Martre towards Paris in my book so far.We had the pleasure to participate to the mess on Sunday and it is also breath taking as it is full of visitors participating in the singing.

Hristo S — Google review

Just stunning - the highlight of Lyon for sure. They call it 'the upside down elephant' because it resembles an elephant on its back and it's strangely apt. The inside is beautiful and FREE to enter which is nice. Also really enjoyed the innovative contactless votive candle payment system. Great gift shop across the street too. Just beware the very steep hill and stairs up to the Basilica - they're no joke!

Nicholas — Google review

This basilica is located in the most strategic point in Lyon to get a great view of the city. Just walk around the basilica to the other side of the plaza and you will see all of Lyon in front of you. You can see the two rivers, and all the areas up to the far mountains. For the basilica itself, I really liked the lion statue at the entrance, it's a great piece of art.The candle stands inside are so beautiful with all the colorful candle cups.I also liked the stained glass and paintings. I'll share some photos here.

Wonderful experience! The bird park is quite good, clean, safe for kids! I recommend. We even bought annual card for 45 euros.

It is beautiful but neglected. The place is far from Lyon.I liked the place but it is better to go in the fall because the insects are really annoying. The animals are clean. There are restaurants, but I do not know why they are always closed. If you have children, it is better to take your snaks with you.In general, it is worth a tryNote:They decorate for Halloween very nice and perfect.

Excellent day at the bird park. I was there for the second time and all the family found some interesting things to do including kids. The new area dedicated to Africa is really well presented. Another good point is that there are a lot of places to make a picnic and playgrounds for children. I also recommend the observation tower to have a good overview of the park. Finally, the bird show in the afternoon is a must see.

Julien B — Google review

Good place to spend the day with the family. Make sure to buy your ticket ahead of time or you may be waiting in line for a long time. They are not very organized. The place is in need of renovations, bathrooms are old, dirty.

Our 3rd visit to this park. We love it. Our kids love it. My folks love it. Always something new to see. Always clean. The birds and other animals seem happy and well cared for. Saw one of the shows this time - for the first time - and it was brilliant. We will be going again on our next trip to the area.

Wide area for a bird park (think of a stroller or trailer, when you want to visit the park with your smaller kids). Amazing bird show. Entrance fee is not cheap but its worth a visit. Spent a wonderful day in July 23 there with my family.

Reimar B — Google review

THE best bird park/ontological exhibit I have seen. The handlers and keepers of the birds should be commended- they are behind the scenes but they obviously care for their charges. And the bird show was the best I have ever seen- it showed off bird's skills without being a show of talking parrots. WELL worth a visit! And they deserve support

The Royal Monastery of Brou is a flamboyant Gothic-style monastery renowned for its ornate marble royal tombs and oak choir stalls. Founded in the early 1500s as a burial place for the Dukes and their families, it was established by Margaret of Austria. Visitors can explore the vast interior for a small fee, with interactive displays and videos bringing its history to life. The monastery houses a large collection of artworks, traditional wooden toys, and intricate architecture.

A jewel of early 16th century religious architecture, the stone and wood carving inside are breathtaking, as are the stain glass windows. Not the most obvious corner of France to visit, but if you are in Bresse it is worth taking an hour or two to visit this impressive monastery and it small museum.

A large collection of artworks, traditional wooden toys and intricate architecture provides a pleasure filled visit for all. Took my breath away. The artisitic detail on the choir area, the beautiful stained glass windows (whose features included "textured" glass, making the clothes look like velevet or silk!), and the prominent paintings by famous artists, were all so fantastic. Ruins of a grand medieval Benedictine monastery, with majestic bell tower, cloisters & a museum.

Going there was not super planned for us on our holidays. But it absolutely was worth it! The place is spectacular. Super big with nice explanations and visuals on how it looked once it was build. We were really in the atmosphere of medieval period !

Olga V — Google review

This beautiful little town has a lot to offer if you're cruising through the back roads of Burgundy, and the Abbey is a spectacular way to spend the day if you enjoy history and ancient buildings. Besides the ruins and restorations, there are 3D films and models to dazzle you. Don't skimp on adding the Tour des Fromages toi your visit (spoiler alert - it's nothing to do with cheese). Don't be put off by the declaration of how many steps there are to climb, the view is worth it.

David H — Google review

Senstively done. Creation then destruction of a medieval masterpiece.

Derek H — Google review

This place was for centuries of incomparable importance for Western Christian spirituality. Then 90% of it was demolished by the French Revolution. And today it's a monument, an engineering college and a stud. It seems sad that local Christians apparently don't want to revive at least some small form of worship here to remind us all of the One this place was supposed to be all about (though Taizé is just up the road).

Andy W — Google review

A beautiful mix of the old and new! They have many exhibits that use technology to illustrate exactly how the abbey used to look hundreds of years ago.Get a tour if you can for more information, but not necessary.Parking is just along the street.I believe 25 and under is free admission too 😎

Maximilian S — Google review

It is unfortunate that a majority of the place was dismantled and sold off.The place is in a constant state of renovation. There was a nice film explaining the history and the audio guide helped walk us through what was left on the place. Stepping outside and seeing where the footings are represented on the ground shows the shadow of the size of the Abby at one time. So little is left that I don’t know if the money to learn about it is worth it.

Lawrence T — Google review

There was a 17 minute film on inside about the abbey but was all in French and because of covid we couldn't use the audio devices usually given to tourists. They should've put subtitles on. Directions throughout the abbey could've been more obvious as we had to backtrack to get back to the entrance. It was great seeing the entire history of the abbey and sad to see how much of it got destroyed. Definitely worth a visit.

The Hôtel-Dieu Museum, also known as Hospices de Beaune, is a renowned attraction in Beaune. It was originally built in the Middle Ages as a hospital and later transformed into a museum. This flamboyant Medieval hospice showcases local art and furnishings from that era. The Gothic architecture adorned with vibrant glazed tile roofs adds to its magnificence. Additionally, the establishment owns prestigious vineyards whose wines are sold under Domaine Hospices de Beaune.

Historical landmark which served as the first ever hospital in the world. The place have a rich history and a nice audio guided tour. I would say this is this is the main attraction in Beaune.

Super place. Well worth an hour away from the wine in Beaune.Beautiful building and interesting displays in an old hospital.Audio guide and plan provided. Good value.

Doug N — Google review

1/4/23Very interesting museum in a former hospital that was in use up to 1984! Tells the story of how the hospital worked over time and daily life there. Also a must visit for medieval art and architecture enthusiasts as the place is full of it. Displays are informative with the provision of an audio guide which can be in English and French.

William P — Google review

Hôtel-Dieu Museum - Hospices de Beaune is an absolute must-visit! Taking the guided tour is highly recommended to fully immerse yourself in the rich history of this place. While many flock to the region for wine tasting at the numerous châteaux, don't overlook the incredible beauty and fascinating history here. The museum provides valuable insights into the evolution of medicine and leaves you pondering how far we've come, yet how little we've advanced in some aspects. It's an incredibly interesting and thought-provoking experience that shouldn't be missed.

Sue C — Google review

Great place to visit, so many history inside…I have been there with my 11 years old son and he was also very interested, the place is very well maintained and organized, definitely a must go if you are in Beaune!

Daniel Q — Google review

Hôtel-Dieu Museum is one of Beaune's must-visit attraction spots, besides the various wine domains and caves in the city. You'll learn about the building's history and transformation, which is entwined with that of the city. Audio-guide is included in the entry ticket. Book online in advance to avoid long queue.

Anh T — Google review

This is a must see if you are in the area. The building is definitely unique with a great story spanning centuries. The self-guided tour (with individual devices for narration) takes up to 2 hours.

Vincent P — Google review

We visited on a half market day via tour bus and enjoyed the area. Restrooms were not bad. There are many places to have lunch and shady spots to relax. The market packed up at 1, so get there early if you want to check it out!

asmiley1 — Google review

The hospice is definitely worth a stop. The very detailed audio information played on demand via a special phone provided was a great addition to the basic tour. It is an amazing place that was set up by a nobleman in the 1400s.

The museum showcases the former hospital's rich history, featuring impressive architecture, vibrant tapestries, and a collection of medical instruments. Visitors can explore the iconic Polychrome Room, known for its stunning timber ceiling. The museum provides insight into medieval healthcare practices and the charitable work of the Hospices. Very interesting and astoundingly beautiful museum which was a hospital in the early modern age. If you are anywhere near Beaune, this is certainly worth checking out. Cheap admission includes audio tour which is available in many languages. Great trip through 16th-18th century history.

Mike H — Google review

Beaune is famous for wine and this impressive former hospital for the poor. The Burgundian roofs and architecture are beautiful to see and it is famous with tourists. You can get an audioguide and explore the history of the halls. Every year in Nocember is the charity wine auction as the hospices also have their own vinyards.

Philipp S — Google review

A must see. An historical monument that's full of interest and home to a fabulous altar polyptic. Keenly priced, with free audioguides.

Andy H — Google review

Absolutely a MUST VISIT. I understand that a lot of people come to visit and drink wines at the many châteauxs But this place has great beauty and wonderful history. It tells us how FAR medicine has come ! And at times, how little we have advance? It's super interesting.

Noelle M — Google review

Sleepy little town with amazing architecture. The hospice with its beautiful roof was especially lovely. Wandered through the narrow streets and came upon an impressive looking church.

Zaida V — Google review

Make time to go visit. This hospital built in the 1400s. Very interesting. The audio tour is presented as if you are talking with the wealthy couple that funded the construction. A fun POV. If you bring children, there's a special audio tour available for them. Very enjoyable .

Susan D — Google review

The roof shows craftsmanship and technique but is not easy to see outside of the court yard on the inside. You can see the front side roof doesn't have the intriguing patterns.

Hristo S — Google review

a wonderful visit to France's 14th century past - an inspired venue dedicated towards healing men & women's hearts, body and souls.Thank you Emerald river cruises for organizing this wonderful excursion.

Doug P — Google review

Nice but might not worth the entrance fee. The building is beautiful from the outside but not as beautiful as it is shown in the pictures

Pitipee R — Google review

Very impressive building from the 15th century. Created to provide hospital facilities to the poor, it continued to provide medical services into the late 20th century. The price of entry includes a self- controlled audio tour about life in the Hospices through its history.

Roger — Google review

If you are in Beaune, then to visit Hospice de Beaune is a must. It started already 1443 as a resort for poor and sick people. Two things was the real drive to make this hospital so successful.1) Charity and free work from religious people, for example nuns work.2) Donation of vineyards from growers in a hope for reward in heaven. In the past, vineyards in Burgundy was just simple agriculture, and nobody could imagine that these tiny plots should once become the most sought after in the world. Today the Hospice own around 60 hectares of premium land in Burgundy, and the economic return from selling grapes and wine is enormous. Is a cheers for this achievement appropriate or not ???

Christer S — Google review

This place is amazing. Bever thought that a private own hospital could be this cozy and welcoming, especially during the revolution days. The facilities are surprisingly well preseved and protected for the visitors to know about that period of time. If it wasn't that sunny, I would love to spend more time there just to listen to the bells from the tower.

Margaret P — Google review

Phenomenal History shared in such a well-preserved and clear manner:)

David W — Google review

Such a fascinating building and history. I was amazed and it definitely surpassed my expectations. I definitely recommend the museum. The collection of chests was great. I was surprised by the inner courtyard, the pharmacy, the Kitchen, the main doom with its roof and the little chapel.

Art museum

Museums

The Museum of Fine Arts Dijon, located in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, contains major collections of western art from the 14th-19th century. After a nine-year renovation, the museum has become a work of art itself and is one of France's most outstanding museums. The Salle des Gardes is a notable exhibit featuring ornately carved sepulchres from late medieval times.

Another of the great Musee des Beaux Arts of France, originally established just before the French Revolution. Many magnificent art pieces from antiquity to the modern day. Also houses the tombs of Dukes of Burgundy. The building itself is part of the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Alan P — Google review

Nice Museum, very well renovated mixing modern display and traditional aesthetic.Sculptures, paintings, ancient and more modern art will be available for free, it is a very unique initiative from the city of Dijon.Well served with 2 elevators too

Giorgio I — Google review

Lovely museum, a nice mixture of art, sculpture and modern art. The real treat is to see the school groups. These children put up their hands for questions and are eager to answer. They will cope well with the abstract.

Monet L — Google review

Definitely worth a visit and should allocate empty time for it. There's no overcrowding so ot is quiet and you can take your time..And, it's free entry.

Lay H — Google review

The Dukes of Bourgondy took the belfrey clock of Kortrijk and placed it on the Notre Dame at Dijon in order for the 'Jaquemart' to strike each hour of the day. But it wouldnt be the only artifact that the Dukes would take from Flanders. As the power of the Dukes rose, so as well did the cultural richness as they ordered several most reknown artist of the time to excell on their artwork. Although the French revolution destroyed the church where the richness of the Dukes was ment to survive the ages, the tombs survived so we can still witness how Klaus slu*ter sculpted the 'plearants' in order to grieve for the Duke and his whife. But there is much more to see than only the medieval art. Certaibly wirthwhile the visit.

Bart E — Google review

What a great museum this is and it is free (in the summer). Absolute must see in Dijon.

Pascal C — Google review

This is an exceptional monument that is home to over 1500 art works, dating from antiquity to present day. Visitors will enjoy an artistic journey through centuries of masterpieces that make this gallery one of the best and most visited in France. Entry is free..

Stu W — Google review

Nice museum although the directions to follow for going around the museum were somewhat patchy.Plenty of oil paintings on canvas, a good section on sculpture, covering especially on François Pompon. The other very interesting parts were on the history of Burgundy and its four dukes.Unless I missed it, I was surprised of not seeing anything about Gustave Effeil whom has we know built the Effeil Tower and was born and grew up in Dijon

Frederic D — Google review

Free entry but you need to go to the counter to get a little ticket before you cross into the galleries. I think it's just to find out where you come from for research purposes. The owl walk comes through here (see my other post) There's a small but nice green patch out the front if you need a rest.

Sam M — Google review

Beautiful place with loads of art, a wide variety of it, and a bit of history! The Duke and duch*esses tombs are particularly impressive.

Lydia — Google review

This museum is a must-see in Dijon with artwork from as early as the 14th century. It demonstrates the evolution of art from two to three-dimensional art employing more artistic technique & introducing light and depth.

Rick H — Google review

Superb museum in a historical setting (palace of Burgundian dukes). What can be better? Well, it’s also free (permanent exhibition). The museum is not too big, so your mind can digest it and the collection is really stunning- starting from Middle Ages right to the XX centuries modernism. Amazing to see all those emotions portrayed by the artists- fear, hate, love, compassion. All this go through centuries of art. Sometimes you can feel yourself in the middle of the battle or a tragic mythological scene. I truly enjoyed this museum.

Great museum with a lot of different exhibitions and displays, ranging from the history of the building itself to medieval up to 20C art as well as some contemporary exhibits at the very top floor of the museum. Free of charge to view the permanent collection but you have to pay to see the temporary exhibition.

Kristina A — Google review

Cool museum with a huge exhibition of art pieces. Interesting architecture of the space and friendly staff of the museum. If you are visiting Dijon and have some time for museums, I would recommend to visit Musee des Beaux-Arts.

Nick A — Google review

The entrance is on the side of the large building that was once the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. The collection spans a long period and is not so special. Sometimes you see an item that stands out but most of it you just pass. What is impressive are the tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy which are best seen from a balcony above. The museum is a maze of galleries with stairs and elevators everywhere. Navigation is a bit difficultEntrance is free.

Seimen B — Google review

This is an excellent museum, which welcomes visitors and is set in an excellent location full of history in its own right. It is free to enter and being a non French speaker, unlike my wife, I found the English translation at the foot of most labels really helpful. The descriptions and explanations are written in a friendly and informative manner that make you eager to learn more.My favourite discovery was about the 'mourners', a fascinating set of sculptures that accompany the tombs of Philip the bold and John the fearless. I was therefore excited to find miniatures of the mourners in the excellent gift shop, one of which now adorns my shelf at home. I can thoroughly recommend this as a must see venue.

David T — Google review

I enjoyed my visit. The artwork is thoughtfully displayed, and there was a surprising number of sculptures. Admission is free to view the permanent collection.

Stephen L — Google review

Amazing museum in an amazing city. The museum is objectively small, only three floors, but what a chic and amazing exposition. I'm not talking about the fact that the entrance is free. This is absolutely and very important for all visitors, especially for those who go with the whole family and who want to join the works of art. And of course many thanks for this to the city. Where I was, I have not seen this anywhere else, it is unique, many thanks to the city for this ones more. Exposition from ancient times to the present day, very good logistics of rooms, very good arrangement of paintings, spacious halls - all this in general is conducive to a calm viewing of the collection.100% recommendation!

Io L — Google review

Its free, has amazing architecture to look at and some outstanding art as well. Just for the ceilings in some rooms it is worth a visit though. Go to the top floor and onto the balcony of the dukes to look at the coffins.

Christian S — Google review

The Owl of Dijon is a renowned tourist spot where visitors can explore the city and discover 22 different locations. The trail offers various attractions along the way, making it a unique experience that is highly recommended. To reach the famous owl, one must follow metal signs on the ground. According to legend, touching the stone owl while making a wish will grant it. This attraction is located near Notre-Dame Church's exterior and draws many tourists each year.

Excellent architecture, iron-work, sculptures and old buildings. This area of the picturesque Dijon is rich with local history, iconic buildings and some beautiful cobbled alleys leading through narrow walls between cathedrals, rectory and other substantial buildings. Wonderful examples of this period and worth the visit on foot.

Dijon’s Owl's Trail In the very heart of Dijon, you can follow a trail indicated by 22 owls on the cobblestones of pedestrian streets, to discover top places and points of interest of the city.

Alia F — Google review

The owl on the pillar is quite small and could be missed so look carefully. Nevertheless, signs with owls are located all along the old town which I thought was cute and a great marketing tool to promote tourism

FS Y — Google review

In fact, the idea with the Owl, and the tourist routes where you are accompanied by owl, is simply ingenious. this idea, of course, is also implemented in other cities. But in Dijon, which is a larger than other cities of the region where we were, this is a real help in order not to get lost and see the main sights of the city. Owl itself accompanied us almost everywhere where we were not in this city.

Renée C — Google review

The Owl trail is a fantastic way to discover Dijon. In addition to the 22 places along the route, there are tons of attractions along the way that you can get lost in. We took almost 2.5 hours to see everything because we kept stopping and wandering.Very unique and highly recommended. Worth the few euros it costs to get the official map or app.

Karan J — Google review

Fun place to visit and try to grant your wishes by following the ritual of stroking the owl with your left hand. Love the history and the way the story has spread to other souvenirs in Dijon

Melanie S — Google review

It is indeed an owl, an overly hyped owl, faceless and about the size of the palm of my hand that is worthy of a lot of praise as it makes way for owles pretty much everywhere in this city, and that is pretty impressive in my book.Long live the owels!

S — Google review

Great walk around Dijon, the owls will take you to interesting places :)

Ivonne G — Google review

By the time that you get to the now "faceless" owl you will have seen some amazing architecture and sights of Dijon. It's a wonderfully easy way to start a walking tour and, it starts really near the SNCF train station in the park (see photo)

The Fontenay Abbey, established in 1118 by St. Bernard and considered to be the best-preserved of all Cistercian abbeys, still thrives today with its historic buildings and beautifully landscaped gardens. It is a testament to the ancient Christian faith that was once practiced within its walls for nearly 900 years.

Beautiful, serene and steeped in history. A favorite for bringing visiting friends and family.

Beautiful Monastery from the 12th century. Such a peaceful place to spend a couple of hours. Credit cards accepted. Cafeteria has vending machine with sandwiches, drinks/sodas and sweets. We saw a couple of dogs on a leash walking around. Souvenirs shop with books, cards and local products.

Lesley J — Google review

I recently visited Fontenay Abbey and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The stunning architecture and beautiful gardens left me in awe. Serene place to sit and contemplate being a monk! The guided tour was only in French which was disappointing but the leaflet helped me understand the history of the abbey. The world's first hydraulic iron forge was interesting. Overall, a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history and architecture. Definitely deserving of 5 stars.

Alvin C — Google review

Beautiful. Visited in the off-season and my daughter and I were the only two visiting at the time. Very peaceful and one can have fun imagining the daily lives of monks here nearly 900 years ago! If you are in the Cote d'Or, definitely make it a stop. You will not be disappointed. Even trout for the young ones to spy.

Absolutely stunning! It really worth going inside and spend peaceful time in the area of large monastery where 200 monks have lived during its greatest times.Partially preserved and largely rennovated monastery. Privately held by the relatives of Montgolfier family.TIP: don’t miss replica of hydraulic forge from 12th century - first of its kind in Europe.

War memorial

Sights & Landmarks

The Menin Gate is a British war memorial located in the town of Ypres, Belgium. The gate is inscribed with the names of 54,896 military personnel who have lost their lives in battle here during World War I and II. It serves as a place of remembrance for those who have died, and it is also the location of a daily Last Post ceremony.

Excellent a sobering experience to see so many names from so many continents called to war. There were pipers who marched though this evening and we listened to the last post. A truly humbling time on a beautiful sunny evening.

Andy P — Google review

A wonderful memorial. Spend some time here to reflect on the men who walked through on their way to war and never returned. Be sure to catch "The Last Post" ceremony at 8:00 every evening. Be there 30 minutes early to catch a good viewing point.

Kevin M — Google review

Went to the last lost ceremony. What a service. A genuinely beautiful thing. It is under construction at the moment as the stone has become a bit weathered, i think. It is still a strengely beautiful place. If you're in the area...8pm every evening... get yourself there for the last post ceremony.

Craig W — Google review

Currently under major renovation so most of memorial under cover. Last Post at 8pm each night. Work will take a couple of years at present. Still a magical, thought-provoking place

Paula V — Google review

This memorial is currently undergoing a large renovation & sadly meant that it is currently covered with scaffolding & tarpaulins. That aside it is still a magnificent memorial & attending the last post at 8pm every night should be a priority visit if you are anywhere nearby. It is well attended so get there early to get a good spot to watch the very moving ceremony. We will remember them.

The daily evening service provides a few minutes to reflect & ponder the past as well as the future. The thought of so many with unknown graves is so sad. The people of Flanders & in particular Ypres to maintain such a monument & tradition is testimony to their gratitude to those who died.

Important! The site is undergoing maintenance for all of 2023 so the gate is covered with scaffolding. The site is astounding and worth a visit if you're in the city.Every evening they pay tribute to those named here and lay wreaths to the fallen with buglers performing the last post. This tends to get very busy so be sure to arrive early.

The monument is being refurbished but is still impressive. Attended the daily 8pm Last Post ceremony, which was well done and meaningful, honoring the WWI fallen on the Allied side. Highly recommended!

A very sobering experience. To see the 50,000+ names makes them people and not just part of a statistic. The remembrance ceremony at 20.00hrs each day is very well done, is somber, and they do ask people not to applaud.

Such an evocative place. So, many names of those who have no known grave and from so many different nations. It is a sobering experience just to see so many names, ranks, regiments. On the right hand side (if approaching from town) and just before you go under the gate there is a slope, if you walk up there you can find the Indian and the Ghurka memorials. There is also a fabulous scale model of the Menin Gate with Braille panels for those with a visual impairment. You won't be disappointed and if in the area it is a must see monument to those who gave their tomorrow's for our today's.

Amazing experience this. Playing of the last post. Every night at 8pm. Loads of people came to see it. Very moving experience. Something you must see in your life. Highly recommend. Would even of made a long trip to see it.

They’re undertaking a huge renovation on the Menin Gate, so we were unable to see it in all its grandeur, but most of the name panels are visible still inside which gives you a hugely powerful impression of just how many men are missing from the war. It truly is a vast number.Although we’d have loved to have seen the gate in all its glory, we’re happy that they’re undertaking such a significant renovation to ensure that this important memorial remains in great condition for future generations.

Our generation need to remember and salute those who fought but had no future themselves. The quiet restrained experience of listening to those 3 bugles makes you feel humble in this torrid world."Give peace a chance" If only !

A place everyone needs to visit and see and listen to the last Post being played. Currently under going restoration till 2025 but still a place of reflection.Set at the gate of the walls of Ypres this is a peaceful site to remember those fallen in WW1.

7/7/23 Our Visit to Ypres Menin Gate in memory of a Great Uncle who fought and lost his life in WW1 Private Edward Victor Halksworth commemorated at Menin Gate Memorial. Unfortunately due to restoration work the panels were under scaffolding so visitors are unable to view them.

Only reason for 4 stars is scaffolding is up so couldnt see the actual gate but went there for armistice day and watched the last post ceremony from the town centre and it was a beautiful service

This is an absolute must visit along with the beautiful town of Ypres, whether a history buff or a casual visitor. Don't miss the the Last Post at the Menin Gate a ceremony that has been performed every evening since the Menin Gate memorial was opened. Plenty of accommodation and restaurants in Ypres.⁹To the memory of the fallen.Lest we forget ❤️ 🌹

I've been to the last post ceremony many times, and it is as moving as ever. The extensive renovation works do not detract from the atmosphere. Utterly superb

I already visited the Menin Gate many times in my life and when I did yesterday 26.09.23 I found the Gate currently being restored which of course was a shame. However, I fully understand the necessity of doing so and look forward to see the Gate again in its full beauty. The Poppies wreath is to be found in front of the Gate about 50 mtrs further down the road.Lest we forget 🏵️

Was such a great atmosphere! The evening last post ceremony was incredible and something I will never ever forget. Would definitely recommend watching the ceremony as it's amazing to witness. The only reason for the 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars was because unfortunately when we visited there was scaffolding up but that can't be helped-hoping to visit again when the scaffolding is gone!
