Prince William And Prince Harry Visit Support4Grenfell Community Hub

Prince WilliamandPrince Harryhave visited the newly established Royal Foundation Support4Grenfell Community hub, which provides support to the Grenfell Tower community in London.
Their Royal Highness also visited Al-Manaar, The Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, which was one of the first centres to respond to the tragedy on the night of the fire.
After the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017, The Duke and duch*ess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, like others, wanted to support the community in North Kensington.
The Royal Foundation, of The Duke and duch*ess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, established Support4Grenfell Community Hub.
The hub is a centre point for organisations already involved in supporting the community to come together to provide additional mental health resources for the children, young people and families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
The Duke and Prince Harry heard how the hub provides a space for various agencies and community groups to continue working collaboratively.
Their Royal Highnesses met representatives from organisations leading the emotional support response at the hub, includingChild Bereavement UK,Place2Be, The Art Room and Winston’s Wish.
Many of these charities have been working with local partners, schools, community groups within Kensington for some years. The hub has allowed these charities to react quickly to scale up their local support in response to the tragedy, as others have done.
Afterwards, The Duke and Prince Harry visited Al-Manaar, The Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, to meet members of the centre’s community. Al-Manaar was one of the first centres that responded to the tragedy on the night of 14 June. Volunteers there co-ordinated other volunteers – and offered food, water, shelter and counselling to survivors of the Grenfell fire.
Al-Manaar continues to work with the families and residents affected to provide counselling, advice and a safe space.
Zendaya To Be Honored at 2017 GLSEN Respect Awards – Los Angeles

GLSEN, the leading education organization creating safe and inclusive schools forLGBTQyouth, will honor actress and activistZendayawith the Gamechanger Award at the 2017GLSENRespect Awards.
The gala will be held on Friday, October 20th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Zendaya will receive the award for her activism and for inspiring young people around the world. She utilizes her platform to connect with millions every day, taking a stand for women, people of color, andLGBTQpeople whose rights are under attack. Her most recent speech at the Teen Choice Awards is a call to action for young people to raise their voices for change. Additionally, Zendaya has lent her time and support to numerous educational causes, including Communities in Schools and Donors Choose.

Five student winners of the Brave New Schools #RethinkHighSchool competition will also join the on-stage lineup. In partnership with XQ Institute, Youth Speaks – a world leader in youth development and spoken word performance – launched a nationwide slam poetry contest. The Grand Prize winners include Carlynn Newhouse (Seattle, WA); Elohndra Brazzle (Des Moines, IA); Jalesha Johnson (Des Moines, IA); Jola Laguda (Quincy, MA); and Marissa Perez & Mike Davis (Pomona, CA). Each submitted an original poem, rap or story that addressed the contest theme: rethinking high school.
In September 2015, XQ: The Super School Project launched an open call to rethink and design the next American high school. Thousands of communities across the country have since come together to reimagine high school education. “EIFPresents: XQ Super School Live” will highlight the incredible progress of this fast-growing movement, challenge the public to build upon it, and provide viewers with insight into how to spark this transformation within their communities.

Police Memorial Foundation Celebrity Poker Tournament

For 45 years stars from TV, Film, Music and Sports along with community members have come together to show support for the men and women who protect and serve Los Angeles.
On September 10, 2017 they will join together again to help raise funds for theLos Angeles Police Memorial Foundationat Avalon Hollywood.
Proceeds from this event benefitLAPDemployees and their immediate family members, who have experienced unforeseen catastrophic circ*mstances, including death, illness and injury. The Memorial Foundation is the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Police Departments employee wellness program and has granted over $17 million dollars without any direct taxpayer money. The Foundation takes care of the widows and orphans of Officers killed in the line of duty when they may not have any other means. The Foundation helps ensure the children of Officers killed have the funds available to go to college, and helps with medical costs and other life necessities.

Spotlight: Sherry Lansing’s Charity Work

In February 2007 Lansing was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, receiving an Oscar statuette.
“Sherry is being honored not only for her passionate work in support of fighting cancer,” said Academy President Sid Ganis, “but because the Board recognized and remembered the long list of charitable organizations and causes she has served, and her long history in serving them. Sherry has earned enormous respect throughout the industry not only for her successful career as a producer and studio head, but because she has never failed to further devote her enormous energy to the needs of others.”
Lansing serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Friends of Cancer Research and as a Trustee of the American Association for Cancer Research. She continues to lend her energy and talents to such advisory boards and committees as the AmericanRed CrossBoard of Governors, the board of trustees for the Carter Center and Stop Cancer, a non-profit philanthropic group she founded in partnership with Dr. Armand Hammer. Lansing is also a Regent of the University of California and serves as chair of the University Health Services Committee.
